📢 Introduction

It's time to make sure that your course meets all learners needs with some accessibility checking.

🧭 Learning Outcomes

Using the Pike Canvas Skills Checklist as the guide, use the resources in this module to make sure you can:

✅ I can use color thoughtfully in my course: ‣ high contrast colors in my text and background make information easy to read ‣ color is not used to convey meaning (color and bold are not used to indicate importance) ‣ color does not distract from or overpower the course information

✅ use images to support course content (banners, headings and icons) and they are accompanied by text descriptions (ALT text) or captions for more complex descriptions.

✅ use text styles to format text so screen readers can easily navigate my written content. (Example: Paragraph, Heading 2, etc.)

✅ " use hyperlinked text that incorporates the hyperlink destination/purpose and includes words and phrases to provide context for screen-readers. (Example: use “Canvas Guide - Hyperlink” rather than

“Canvas Guide”) "

✅ use the Accessiblity Checker in the Rich Content Editor to help make my content more accessible to my learners.

✅ accompany Audio recordings (mp3, wav, etc.) with a transcript and videos and screencasts are closed-captioned .

✅ demonstrate to students how to use I mmersive Reader in Canvas.

✅ use the History Navigation to view recent Canvas content.

✅reference the Student Canvas Support resources.

✅access Canvas Help Guides for additional training.
